Degree in China

Data-driven guides for international students.

What this site is

Degree in China is a resource for international students who are seriously considering — or already committed to — studying in China.

Not a study-abroad agency. Not a university recruitment page. Just well-researched, plainly written guides that help you make better decisions.

📋

Honest, not promotional

We report the numbers as they are — including the cases where China is not the right answer.

📊

Data-backed, not assumed

Every claim is cross-checked against official sources before it reaches the page.

🎯

Student-first, not sponsor-first

No sponsored placements. No paid recommendations. No agency partnerships.

🌏

Real experience, on the ground

Written by someone who’s lived in China for over a decade — not from a desk abroad.

Why we built it

Most of what you find online about studying in China is written by agents with financial incentives, universities with enrollment quotas, or generalist travel blogs that spent two weeks in Beijing.

None of that is necessarily wrong. But it is rarely complete, and almost never honest about the trade-offs.

We built Degree in China because the questions international students actually ask — Is a CSC scholarship realistic for me? Will my Chinese degree be recognized back home? Is a double room or a single room worth the price difference? — deserve real answers backed by real data, not marketing copy.

Who writes this

From the Founder

One person, one perspective, one standard.

The site is run by someone who has lived in China for over a decade — long enough to know how the system actually works, not just what the brochures say.

A background in English teaching means two things: a firsthand understanding of what international students go through when they land in China, and an ear for plain, readable language. An equally long engagement with China’s study-abroad policies — from university admissions to visa regulations to scholarship programs — means every guide on this site is rooted in what the rules actually say, not what someone assumed.

No ghostwriters. No outsourced content.

How we research

Every guide on this site is built around three pillars:

1

Official sources

University admissions pages, government visa regulations, scholarship program documentation — we go to the source.

2

Verified data

QS World University Rankings, national enrollment statistics, cost-of-living figures from university housing offices — numbers you can trust.

3

Honest framing

We cross-check claims before publishing. When data is unavailable or uncertain, we say so.

Every guide is backed by official sources, verified data, and honest framing.

What we cover

Degree in China follows international students through every stage of the journey — from the first Google search to life after graduation.

Stage 1
School Selection

Rankings explained, city comparisons, English-taught vs Chinese-taught programs

Stage 2
Costs & Scholarships

CSC scholarship difficulty, provincial vs university scholarships, self-funded reality check

Stage 3
Application & Admission

Applying with an agent vs DIY, application fee policies and refunds

Stage 4
Visa & Legal

Student visa rejection — what to do when it happens, and how to prepare

Stage 5
Campus Life

Dorm options, costs, what to expect on arrival — single vs double vs off-campus

Stage 6
After Graduation

Working in China, degree recognition in South Korea, Thailand, and Western graduate schools

A note on what we are not

We do not work with universities. We do not accept sponsored placements. We do not run ads for study-abroad agencies. When we recommend something, it is because the data supports it — not because someone paid us to say it.

Have something to say?

A question that isn’t covered yet? A data point we got wrong? A topic you wish existed on this site? We read every message.
